Middle School Activities
Middle School activities for children should keep
them interested in their work right from the first day.
This is the
time to strengthen the math foundation, improve reading skills
and increase the vocabulary.
Middle school activities can include a host
of project work for science and other subjects. On the sports field
too there are many more opportunities to participate in middle
school activities.
Teachers in middle school organize the first day to set the tone
of what lies ahead. Icebreakers can serve well to introduce the teacher
to the students and vice versa. |

As children in their pre-teens are experiencing a whole new phase of their lives, a lot of importance is given to their emotional growth. In most of the activities the teacher is an active participant and it usually works well if the teacher shares first.
A good introduction activity for fifth graders,
spearheaded by the teacher is to give his or her name and state
which animal he resembles and why.
This is followed by each child
naming and describing himself as an animal – an association
which can last through the year!
A fun way to improve the vocabulary right
from the start of the year is to learn a new word every day. A
great word to begin with is ‘unique’.
The kids have
to find out the meaning from clues and each one has to describe
how he or she is unique! Older children
can discuss their lives in a pictorial form, initiated with the teacher
sharing her life.

Clouds are filled with thoughts and dreams, mountain
peaks describe the high points in life and the valleys talk about what
bothers or depresses the teacher and then the student.
This activity can lead to discussion of various social and psychological problems faced by the group. It also is an insight into their aspirations and how they can work towards them.
