Exam Gyno

Most girls find the exam gyno part of an annual medical check up pretty embarrassing. Most girls are nervous about what it involves so may be we can discuss it here and reassure you.

The first thing to understand is that the purpose of an annul check, including the gyno exam that you dread so much is to find out about any disease at its earliest.

Thus, in case the doctor finds something wrong you can be treated for it at once. Secondly, you have to keep in mind that the person conducting the gyno exam is a doctor, who is doing his or her job and is pretty familiar with body parts of all shapes and sizes! If the idea of a male examiner bothers you, ask to be seen by a lady doctor.

The test itself at the campus clinic or elsewhere does not take much time. Being aware of what will happen makes it less stressful. You may be asked to give a sample of urine for testing so if may be a good idea not to pee just before you get there.

The doctor then does some routine tests of blood pressure, pulse weight, height etc - really quite simple.

You may be asked to change into a disposable paper gown for the tests.

The doctor then examines your body and your breasts in particular for any lumps.

Then, as a part of the gyno check, the doctor checks the pelvic region using a metal device known as a speculum to make a proper examination.

You may be asked to place your legs into two suspended stirrups.

She will then take a cotton swab of the cervix for a PAP smear test.  While this process may be a little uncomfortable it is certainly not painful. You can ask for the stirrups to be padded and for a warm speculum so as to make it less uncomfortable.
